The Seminar on Ancient Topography is a Research Group active since 1997 attached to the Department of History and Art History of the URV and, at the same time, to the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology. It gathers around a unitary scientific program different researchers specialized in the study of ancient urbanism, Greek and Roman architecture, archaeological research in urban environments, the application of Geographical Information Systems in Archaeology and the formulas for integrating archaeological remains in the historic city.
Our group includes among its priorities the archaeological, urban, historical and cultural analysis of the ancient Tarraco and the current problems of the Urban Archaeology of the city of Tarragona. Even so, these studies can only make sense within the framework of other equally important works that different components of the group carry out on other cultures and continents, be it Ancient Greece and Rome itself, the cities of Ostia and Pompeii, the Andean Cultures and the Far East (Korea and Japan). The group also promotes the creation of a European network of Roman provincial capitals: Simulacra Romae (www.simulacraromae.org).
SETOPANT is part of the research group of the Generalitat de Catalunya 2017 SGR-970, MIRMED-GIAC (ICAC / URV / UAB).
