Professor of Greek and Roman Archaeology at Rovira i Virgili University. He has been director of the Department of History and History of Art, until February 2025, and coordinator of the interuniversity doctorate in Classical Archaeology (2021) and co-director, together with Prof. Ricardo Mar Medina, of the research group: Seminari de Topografia Antiga (www.setopant.com).

UNIVERSITY RESEARCH:

In 1982, one of the introducers in Spain of the new recording systems in archaeological excavations and the Harris diagrams or stratigraphic matrices. Researcher of the Greek and Roman city of Emporion / Emporiae with dissertation, doctoral thesis, several articles and two books published. Co-director of excavations at the Roman Theatre in Tarragona. Pre-doctoral research stay at the Spanish School of History and Archaeology in Rome. Coordinator of excavations at the Taller Escola d’Arqueologia (TED'A) in Tarragona between 15/12/1986 and 17/12/1989. He collaborated with Ricardo Mar Medina in the excavations of the sanctuary of Serapis in Ostia Antica and later of the Campus della Magna Mater. Member of the research team at the caupona of Vetutius Placidus in Pompeii. Director of the European project "Simulacra Romae. Arqueología de las capitales provinciales romanas". Co-director of excavations in Emporiae, Tarraco, Ilerda, Pompeii, Ostia Antica and Rome itself. He is a scholar of Roman urban planning and architecture from its archaeological, economic and social aspects, as well as the archaeology of sanctuaries in the ancient world. Expert in Urban Archaeology (recording techniques, organisation and GIS). Scientific collaborator of the international festival 'Tarraco Viva' in its 20 editions (1999-2018). Member of the Heritage Commissions of the provinces of Lleida and Tarragona, Archaeology Advisor of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Technical collaborator in the candidacy of Roman Tarragona for World Heritage (1999/2000). Founding member of the Revista d'Arqueologia de Ponent and its secretary for seven years (2004-2010).
